Arjun was born and raised in France. He is half French, half Indian and has been to India on numerous occasions. After doing a first year in Scotland, he transferred to McGill and absolutely loves it here (this might change once he experiences -40°). Arjun is studying Computer Science. He is dedicated, patient, and perfectionist. He is also starting to enjoy writing about himself in the third person. He complies with many of the snobbish French stereotypes, such as not drinking wine that does not come from France, saying too many times “In France we […]”, and complaining about not finding (non-expensive) good cheese. He enjoys all sports in general, and plays the Saxophone. Arjun is tremendously grateful and proud to be in the big Chromatones family.
“Why can’t bicycles stand on their own? Because they are two tired.”
Coming from the countryside of Denfield, Ontario (he usually says London), Brock “that guy from Pokémon” Jenken is a U0 biochemistry student despite his father’s wishes for him to become a dairy farmer. Coming from a family of six children and four parents, Brock has been involved with music heavily through his life, performing with London’s Amabile choir, preparing for his ARCT in piano performance, and singing with Alzheimer’s patients under London’s Alzheimer’s society. When not rehearsing with his fellow Chromies, he enjoys photographing pretty much anything, devoting unhealthy amounts of time to video games, and long walks on the beach. Being one of the few people at McGill who lives on a dairy farm, Brock prides himself in his ability to imitate Holstein cattle, drink ungodly amounts of milk, and identify types of crops. What do you call a cow that doesn’t give milk? An udder failure.
Ellie Reynolds is a U1 Environment student at McGill who grew up in sunny Los Angeles and can’t remember why she thought she could handle the Great White North. She enjoys singing, watching good television, listening to old school hip hop, reading adventure novels, kayaking, and—most of all—Mexican food. She also hasn’t had a decent taco in months so if anyone knows of any genuinely good Mexican restaurants in Montreal please hmu asap (I never say asap unless it’s an emergency).
Emily is new to McGill and is so happy to part of Chromatones a cappella!
Emily grew up in London, UK and is half British, half French. Emily has taken part in many different choirs and was in an a cappella group in high school! She also plays piano and violin. To sum up: she loves music and singing! Dancing is another favourite, although she can’t actually dance very well.
Emily is an Arts student studying Latin American Studies and loves to speak Spanish! Other hobbies include watching movie marathons with friends and staying up late talking!
Eric has been at McGill University for three years and is currently studying Economics and Music. Eric comes from the oh so glamorous city of Waterloo, where he infiltrated every single music group he could. Whilst in Waterloo, Eric was part of show choirs, classical choirs, jazz bands, concert bands, and barbershop quartets. Needless to say, Eric is a proud music nerd. Eric has developed a bond with his fellow Chromies that will never be broken, even though they constantly make fun of his inability to detect sarcasm. Other than A Cappella, Eric enjoys trivia, fine wine, and dad jokes. Speaking of dad jokes, why don't skeletons ever go Trick-or-Treating? Because they have no body to go with!
Born in 1947, Evan Schor has always been a man captivated by the intricacies of his own navel. He has the heart of a lion and a ban from McGill's Animal Resources Centre. Most of his days are spent quietly muttering to himself with brief intrusions of raucous laughter, after which he looks around nervously and is thankful that he doesn't have roommates. After a short tour as a backup dancer for Beyonce, he returned to McGill to finish his degree in... something... maybe science? Originally hailing from the great state of Indianapolis, he spent most of his time in Montreal's Chinatown, training in an attempt to become the premiere Bian Lian performer of his generation. He loved being a bass in Chromatones, a group that gave him endless joy during his time at McGill, and has brought him yet closer to reaching the ever evasive brown note.
Bonjour/hi! Hailing from the mysterious lands of the Middle East, Jad has live in three different places: Dubai (born there), Toronto (more like GTA), and Beirut, Lebanon. Jad is a U2 student majoring in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies. His singing career started when he was a fetus (8th grade), and from then on he has developed into a tenor (he knows, that he is lucky). Jad is really excited for Chromatones this year, and hopes to see all your beautiful faces in the audience! Joke: I know this joke is cheesy, but I feel grate
Katharine is a U1 student studying economics and the Earth's environment. Katharine loves to sing and does so everywhere she goes, which warrants a lot of “why are you singing” and “ma’am please, it’s two in the morning and this is a library, you need to leave.” Other than singing Katharine loves to watch a whole lot of television and movies and then quote them back to you as if they were real life. She is ECSTATIC to be in Chromatones is loving every second of it! What do you call a snobbish criminal going downstairs? a condescending con descending.
Mariel is a second year at McGill studying Political Science. She enjoys fun facts, musicals, corny jokes, and cheesy pick-up lines. Before coming to the beautiful city of Montreal Mariel lived in Annapolis, Maryland. Fun Fact: Annapolis is the oldest state capitol still in use today. When not singing Mariel can be found drinking copious amounts of coffee and attempting to study while actually watching Netflix. How did Harry Potter get down the hill? By walking… JK rolling!
Megan is in her first year at McGill as a U0 Arts student planning to major in Women’s Studies. Originally from the small town of Summerland, BC (yes, that is a real place), she is absolutely loving city life here in Montreal. Megan adores singing, is a huge musical theatre nerd, and can generally be found either eating or watching television/movies (usually both). She is beyond ecstatic to have been accepted into Chromatones (some may say she cried, but she will firmly deny that assertion), and rehearsals are her favourite part of the week (see: nerd)! What do the French call a really bad Thursday? A trajeudi.
Megan Tan, despite what her name says, is NOT tan. She is Chromatones A Cappella's graphic designer for 2015-2016. Hailing from the tiny country/city/island Singapore, she likes sharks (there aren't sharks in Singapore), curry (there is a lot of curry in Singapore), apples (there are some apples in Singapore) and Second Cup's London Fogs (it's too warm for London Fogs in Singapore). She's mostly lived in Shanghai, but now she's at McGill's Faculty of Education in Montreal. When she's not singing, she's mostly joking about wanting to be a shark and eating people. "What's the difference between a piano and a tuna? ...You can tuna piano, but you can't piano a tuna!"
Nabeel is in both his second year at McGill and chromatones. Originally born in India, he moved to New Hampshire at a young age and has been chasing the American Dream ever since. He's studying international development and economics. In his free time he enjoys bodybuilding, reading, and counting calories.
Ryan Canuto is currently a third year student at McGill and is studying linguistics and music. Naturally, his favorite hobbies include learning new languages and listening to a wide variety of music ranging from Brahms to the Backstreet Boys to Broadway musicals. Another one of his passions is baking, hence his part-time job at a bakery in Westmount. If all else fails after university, his backup plan is to become a world-renowned chef, creating new and unique concoctions at his own restaurant in some trendy city. Originally from the Upper East Side of NYC (yes, like in Gossip Girl), he is ecstatic to be spending his prime years in Montreal and can be found loitering at a cool bar with friends, relaxing at home watching Netflix, or of course rehearsing some hip tunes with his fellow Chromies. Why don't eggs tell jokes to each other? Because they'd crack each other up.
Tara is a first year Arts student at McGill studying sociology from Markham, Ontario. Tara has been singing since she was 3 years old and has performed in several theatre productions, her favourites of which include Legally Blonde, Fame, and A Chorus Line. When she is not singing, Tara loves to binge watch TV episodes (it doesn’t really matter what show). She is thrilled to be performing with the Chromatones who are not only an amazing singing group, but have also become her family at McGill. Why was the musician arrested? He was in treble.
Yasmin is a U2 student studying Psychology and English: Drama and Theatre. She is Jordanian-Palestinian and Canadian, but spent most of her life in Saudi Arabia. Yasmin loves to read, keep track of the 65 tv shows she watches, pretend she knows more about movies than she actually does, and cry over cheesy broadway shows. Food is also extremely important. And Neil Patrick Harris lives on a unicorn.
